"I left school at 16 to work in the Forestry Commission and attended forester Training School. After a dispute with the Principal over my beard I had to leave.
"I trained as a Museum Taxidermist in Glasgow, met my wife while working in Nottingham and moved back to Edinburgh.
"Again I fell out with a Museum Director, resigned and became a West Lothian village Post Master, retiring in 2003 to the West Midlands. I have trained and flown eagles, am a Freemasonry Lodge Master, and have two sons without beards, so the family's beard tradition dies with me."
The British Beard Club is a social meeting group for bearded men, their partners and families of The British Isles. We discuss, encourage and support the growing, styling and maintenance of a man's beard, and along the way we make new friends, enjoy good food, real ales and good conversation.
The British Beard Club is a non-political, non-orientated loose association of Beard Aficionados giving mutual support, friendship, and advice to men who have always wanted to grow a beard, who are growing their beards, or who have had a beard for years. Growing his beard is the most natural and ecological expression of a man's character, and conserves precious resources and energy.
The British Beard Club organises regular meetings often in the South, The Midlands and Eastern England. There are enthusiastic meeting groups in all other parts of the country; the South-West, Wales, the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We also welcome Ex-Pat and International members, with Overseas memberships in the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and in the USA, Canada, South Africa, Japan and Australia.
